PIKE COUNTY, Mo. — The Pike County Health Department has been notified of its first positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This case is a contact related case. This patient is currently in home isolation, following the guidance of the CDC. No other information will be provided about the patient.
The Pike County Health Department continues to work closely with health care partners and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to monitor the patient and identify any close contacts which will be contacted individually.
In a statement made by the Health Department this Sunday, “We understand this can be a concerning time for our community. As there are more positive cases found in Missouri and the Unites States, the best thing that ALL residents can do is to practice social distancing, proper handwashing, and staying home when you are sick. Social distancing is critical at this time to limit the spread of COVID-19.”
To reduce risk and prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Pike County Health Department encourages following these basic preventative measures:
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
– Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
– Stay home if you are sick
– Cover coughs and sneezes
– Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces frequently
– If you suspect that you have COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, call your healthcare provider to let them know before seeking care. It is critical that your provider is aware that you may have COVID-19 prior to your arrival at a healthcare facility, and that you follow all instructions for arriving at a healthcare facility.
