CLARKSVILLE, Mo. — The Clopton Lady Hawks were victorious over the Montgomery County Wildcats on Thursday evening, in an EMO Conference pitcher’s duel. Defeating the Wildcats 2-0 in seven innings, the Lady Hawks proved their defensive toughness in the match up.
In the first inning, Clopton put pressure on Montgomery County’s defense by playing small ball. The Lady Hawk’s strategically used bunting to get runners into scoring position, then followed up with some key hits to tack on two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Montgomery County’s ace Brooklyn Fischer minimized the damage in the first inning and didn’t allow any more Lady Hawk’s across the plate for the remaining six innings of play.
Clopton’s Brooklyn McKenny silenced Montgomery County’s bats, recording her first shut out of the season. McKenny was effective in pitch placement, accuracy, and movement, leaving the Wildcat’s scoreless. With runners in scoring position, Clopton’s defense made big plays to help McKenny who was producing a lot of ground balls from her movement pitches.
With their win over Montgomery County, Clopton moves to 1-2 in EMO Conference play. On Saturday the Lady Hawks will travel to North Shelby for the North Shelby Tournament. Find a full list of scores on the Scoreboard page at kjfmradio.com and on the KJFM Radio App.
