PIKE COUNTY, Mo. — First it was meat, and now it’s diapers.
The North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) is offering free diapers to income-qualifying parents of babies in 12 Missouri counties.
In addition to qualifying by income, clients must make an appointment for a NECAC intake assessment, take a life skills class and meet other guidelines.
With the baby formula shortage and sky-high inflation, NECAC says it wants to help parents use the savings for other needs.
The diapers are available at NECAC Service Centers in Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Randolph. St. Charles, Shelby and Warren counties. The agency has more than 43,000 diapers and pull-ups available.
The program follows the distribution of free meat by NECAC in eight counties that have cold storage capability. Funding for both comes from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
