PLEASANT HILL, Ill. — Regional Quarterfinal action tipped off Saturday in Pleasant Hill when the (7) Pleasant Hill/Western (PHW) Lady Wild Wolves played host to the (3) North Greene Lady Spartans. The Lady Wild Wolves were sparked right out gates with a quick start offensively. Scoring started with a quick bucket from Ava Wombles and three consecutive shots knocked down by PHW senior Skylar Bainter.
Another catalyst for an early lead, that would never be threatened, was the North Greene Lady Spartans inability to handle the defensive pressure of the Lady Wild Wolves. Even when their interior shooting failed them down the stretch in the first half, PHW dialed up their rebounding tenacity and forced turnovers on the defensive end to take a 26-2 lead to halftime.
Picking up where they left off, the Lady Wild Wolves went to the final frame up 36-5 and wrapped up a 43-8 victory in the opening round of post-season play. Next up for the Pleasant Hill/Western Lady Wild Wolves is Regional Semifinal action against the (3) Bluffs Lady Cougars at 7:30pm this Monday, February 13, from Calhoun High School in Hardin.
