JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Representative Chad Perkins announced today that Joanne Hammuck of Paynesville, MO will be the recipient of the prestigious DeVerne Lee Calloway Woman of the Year Award. Upon learning of this recognition, Perkins said, “I couldn’t think of another woman more deserving than Joanne to receive this award. Her many accomplishments and legacy in our community are unmatched and I am happy that she is receiving this award. I look forward to presenting her with a resolution celebrating this achievement on the House Floor next week.”
Senator Travis Fitzwater responded to the announcement by saying, “The people of Paynesville know the dedication that Joanne has for her community and I’m proud to see she’s being recognized for her service.”
The DeVerne Lee Calloway Woman of the Year Award was established in 1993 to honor the memory of DeVerne Lee Calloway, the Missouri General Assembly’s first female African-American member. DeVerne Calloway dedicated her life, including nine terms in the Missouri House of Representatives, to putting people first.
The celebration of this recognition for Joanne Hammuck will be held on Monday, April 3rd in the House Chambers. The public is invited to attend.
