PIKE COUNTY, Mo. — Pike County Sheriff and veteran Stephen Korte makes a point during his Veterans Day message on Saturday, Nov. 11. The ceremony at the Pike County Courthouse in Bowling Green included prayers, a flag display, rifle guard and the playing of “Taps.”

Korte noted the history of the observance – the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, which marked the end of World War I hostilities in 1918 – and urged those gathered to ensure young people learn about the sacrifices made for the country.
