CLARKSVILLE, Mo. — The Clopton Hawks hosted the district’s quiz bowl competition Saturday, April 15, where the Hawks team took second place.
This year, the Clopton quiz bowl team has succeeded with new, very promising scorers such as Finn O’Brein, who is only a freshman, but still very often brings in the most points for the team. As well as Finn, seniors such as Shea Williamson, who is typically the team’s top scorer, has continued to show their sheer intellect and talent for on-the-spot thinking throughout their high school careers.
“It was a very competitive tournament,” commented Clopton coach Andy VanBebber. “The Clopton Quiz Bowl team scored very well going 3-0 in the preliminary rounds. In the semifinals they defeated Christian Academy to go on to face New Haven. It was a close game throughout. Clopton lost 280-270, which is by one question.”
He added, “I am very pleased with the performance of our team and I am truly looking forward to next year. I’m very grateful for the Senior leadership of Shea Williamson and Faith Myers as well as the support of John Cooke. We finished the year with a record of 13-7. “
